Stitch (March 2023)

A senior dating site that tries to say it is not a dating site BUT clearly is! Stitch is a companionship community for over 50’s that was created by Australian – Andrew Dowling – as a wider community to help older folk Wipe Out Loneliness (which is the name of a not-for-profit charity he also runs.

OK, se get why Andrew wants to distance himself from some dating sites/apps… but he should also be proud of what he is doing with the Stitch community and sort of ‘admit’ that a very large portion of his users are indeed using it solely as a dating site.

The site is also – although again Andrew tries to deny this – a social network. In fact, it works in a fashion most closely related to MeetUp. But… like some other apps, you can focus on friendships, dating or both.

Profile Creation

Stitch (March 2023) does not feature comprehensive profiles - that is, you are quite limited in what information you can include or filter. This makes matching a lot more hit-and-miss and means you have to get some small talk out of the way with new matches. This might have been avoided if the profiles were more comprehensive.

Profiles at Stitch (March 2023) include tags. These give you the chance to show a few of your interests or a little about your lifestyle - or learn those of other daters.

Searching / Filtering

On Stitch (March 2023), - depending on your membership type - you are to search through and filter profiles based on your own criteria. This is great because it means you are not limited to just seeing random profiles that you really may not be interested in anyway. The first filter you will likely use is the location filter.

Sending / Receiving Likes

On Stitch (March 2023), dependent on your membership type, you can message anyone. You do not have to make a match based on mutual likes to start a conversation.

Matching Aides

Stitch (March 2023) doesn't include any features to aide in matching, such as: Curated Matches, Compatibility Quizzes/Scores or a Question & Answer system.

Messaging

In Stitch (March 2023), you need to have a premium subscription to send messages and read messages. At OnlineDatingHQ, we don't normally recommend using apps that have this limitation because they are often filled with profiles that manipulate you into paying to read messages - which turn out to be fake users anyway. There are exceptions to this rule but be wary and read some reviews here or elsewhere online first.
