The Worst Recommendations We Have Seen
Like many apps, Hinge sends out emails with ‘recommendations’ of people that it has decided are a perfect match for you. Out testers have unanimously agreed that the recommendations from Hinge are without any question the worst recommendations they have ever seen.
This stands to reason, of course, because the limited information you can add to your profile results in Hinge knowing nothing about you. To their credit, they do accompany the recommendation with a note saying they recommend these matches because they are ‘more likely’ to give you a like.
Unfortunately, that is overwhelmingly because the users are on the lower end of the appeal scale. Hinge perhaps works well as an app in the USA where it is picking up Bumble users who are searching for a different app.. but the number of users in Europe is very low.
Hinge (March 2023) features comprehensive profiles - that is, there are many fields that can be filled and filtered. This is great because the more information profiles can contain, the more likely you are able to filter and find a good match.
You are guided through the profile creation part of your Hinge (March 2023) journey by a helpful step-by-step feature.
Profiles at Hinge (March 2023) include prompts. These can be a helpful starter to get you writing a little about yourself... and of course to find out more about your potential matches.
Searching / Filtering
When it comes to finding your match on Hinge (March 2023) you are not able to search for them, rather profiles are presented to you in a roulette-style card stack and you choose to either like or pass on each person. The first filter you will likely use is the location filter.
Once you have found the profiles you are interested in, you are able to view the photos of those members as a free user.
Sending / Receiving Likes
Hinge (March 2023) operates with the familiar dating app system where you match with other users when you have both given each other a like.Sending likes is free, however there are limits to how many you can send. You need a premium subscription to send likes. This is something we see a major disadvantage of the app. It's great that you can see who has liked you for free. Boosts bring your profile to the front of the pack for a short time. These are paid for separate from a subscription.
Hinge (March 2023) doesn't include any features to aide in matching, such as: Curated Matches, Compatibility Quizzes/Scores or a Question & Answer system.
In Hinge (March 2023), you can send messages to - and read messages from anyone that you have matched with. This is included in the free version of the app. Read receipts can be purchased separately.
Audio Chat is available. Hinge (March 2023) includes a video chat feature. This is a great way to get to know your matches a little better. We always recommend having a video chat before you meet - it really helps filter out scammers.
It's 100% possible to find a relationship in the free version of Hinge .
